Tarmac at Twilight

Another day of watching, thinking, linking, arranging, searching, reckoning
It's around twilight, it's time
The journey between my two worlds is beckoning

Emerging from the lanes and small patches of green and grass
Merging into the moving motorised mass
Sleek vehicles, slippery sanity
Mighty engines, mightier vanity
Slaloming through every inch of space
Red lights flying past
Thundering through with noise and pace
Going nowhere but too fast

A not-so-smooth road, half cordoned off
A future under construction, an ambitious Smartness
The eyes blink in the gleam
of the approaching headlight beams
As displaced streetlights shroud the place in darkness

Crawling slowly through a familiar impediment
Caused by a few whose sense bows down to sentiment
It happens so often, it looks frightening
The noose of foolishness slowly seems to be tightening

Leaving it behind, reaching the home stretch
A long, straight, cool section of road
Approaching the abode

At the end of the mayhem comes the much-needed stop
The engine stops purring, the headlight goes off

Time for the spring to rewind
to prepare for tomorrow, return to the grind
